Reyburn Intermediate

Part of the Clovis Unified School District

Science

The science department at the REC is a 7-12 aligned program offering students the opportunity to build comprehensive knowledge in science.

Students enrolled at Reyburn Intermediate may be enrolled in 7th grade science as they start junior high where they will build foundational skills necessary to inquiry based science through scientific reading and writing. Students will study the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) using an integrated approach where life, earth, physical and space sciences will be covered.  Students are placed in Honors 7th grade science after completing a diagnostic test, and must meet Math and ELA requirements.

8th grade science students have the opportunity to enroll in 8th grade science where a continuation of NGSS curriculum will be covered in the areas of life, earth, physical and space science . Honors 8th grade science courses are offered for those students who have a sincere desire to gain scientific knowledge and who meet the requirements of the course.  Specific Math and ELA requirements, performance in 7th grade science, and teacher recommendations must be met for enrollment in Honors 8th grade science.

All students enrolled in Reyburn's 7th and 8th grade science courses will gain the skills of scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and laboratory techniques required of their high school courses.  Special focus is placed on the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices.

7-12 Science Pathway

OBJECTIVE: In order to prepare students for the annual CAST assessment, students will need exposure to four years of Science content curriculum in three years of instruction without a third year of Science to meet graduation requirements. A conceptual pathway to address Integrated Earth, Life, Chemistry and Physics is needed.
